Corbet, J. "Kernel.org compromised." LWN.net, August 31, 2011. lwn.net/Articles/457142/. The Linux Foundation, "The Cracking of Kernel.org." Wikipedia, kernel.org.

Key facts: Attackers obtained root access on multiple kernel.org servers and ran modified versions of OpenSSH and other utilities. Linux source code was not at risk because Git's cryptographic hash chain made tampering immediately detectable across the thousands of independent clones held by developers.

Use: Empirical demonstration of integrity-as-architectural-property under adversarial pressure. Cited in C-0013, C-0007, and E-0010.
